International Fellowship in Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery and Microsurgery

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department is offering a 6 months-fellowship to plastic surgeons, who wish to gain additional experience in microvascular, post-bariatric and reconstructive surgery. Candidates applying for this program must have completed an accredited plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program and be familiar with the full range of plastic surgery procedures. In addition they must provide two letters of recommendation by a suitable supporting institution or person.

Objectives

The candidate of the International Fellowship will be involved in the multi-disciplinary approach as practiced at our institution and will participate in patient management and surgeries including:

Autologous tissue breast reconstruction
Breast implant reconstruction
Facial reanimation
Functional muscle transfer for facial reanimation
Free flaps and complex reconstruction
Lymphedema surgery
Lymphovenous anastomosis
Nerve repairs
Post-bariatric surgeries
Vascular Malformations

FAQ

Active participation in ongoing clinical research and presentations at a national/international meetings are supported and expected.

The program is based at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Hospital of the Divine Savior (Goettlicher Heiland Krankenhaus) in Vienna, Austria.

The fellowship does not constitute any kind of employment with the Hospital of the Divine Savior (Goettlicher Heiland Krankenhaus) and requires a so called 'Cooperation Agreement' between the hospital and the fellow's home institution. This implies employment with his/her home institution for the whole duration of his/her fellowship, incorporating monthly salary. Other financing options of a fellowship, either funded by official grants or scholarships can be individually examined.

Dr. Jorge Andrés Tarud Santos is a Colombian plastic surgeon who completed his medical and specialty training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Universidad Simón Bolívar in Colombia.

Dr. Vrancken obtained her medical degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belguim. During the master studies, she completed an exchange semester at the Universität Zürich UZH (Switzerland) and a surgical intership in l’Hôpital Armand- Trousseau in Paris (France). She continued her specialty training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Moustapha Hamdi

During specialty training, Dr. Vrancken developed a profound interest in facial surgery and a passion for facial reanimation surgery. This stimulated her to persue a postgraduate diploma at the Université de Sorbonne in Paris (France) in oculoplastic surgery and to participate in different international courses centered on facial palsy and facial surgery (United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium).

It is her goal to learn during the fellowship program how to use and interpret the preoperative diagnostic tools and to acquire supermicrosurgical skills. Moreover, she would like to obtain more insights in the preoperative decision-making process, the conservative and non-surgical management and follow-up of both life-long conditions. Dr. Vrancken will start to work at Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris (France). It is her professional goal to be able to treat patients with lymphedema and facial palsy in the future.

Dr Tsallas obtained his MD from the University of Athens. He was awarded an MSc DIC from Imperial College London for his postgraduate studies on microsurgical breast reconstruction and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His training in plastic surgery included 2-year rotations in Athens General State hospital in Greece and 4 years in the United Kingdom where he trained in St Thomas’, Chelsea, and Lister hospital in the Greater London area.

He is currently working as a consultant plastic surgeon in Athens General State hospital. His practice includes reconstruction after burns, trauma and oncological treatments. His interest in facial plastic surgery led to him obtaining an FRCSIT (facial reconstructive and cosmetic surgery India trust) membership.

He joins as fellow in Goetllicher Heiland Krankenhaus with the aim of improving his microsurgical skills and benefitting from the immense experience the team has on micro and super-microsurgery procedures including lymphatic surgery and facial reanimation procedures. He hopes that the knowledge he gains here will add to his armamentarium and allow him to offer the best possible care to future patients.

Dr Naim Abuzarifa obtained his basic medical degree from Thamar University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, he did his internship and plastic surgery residency in King Fahad Central hospital in Saudi Arabia for 3-years then works in medical centers in United Arab Emirates for 9 years, and he completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery postgraduate training program for 4 years and gained his master degree of plastic surgery from Universiti Sains Malaysia and he is member of Malaysian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery & International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and joined plastic and reconstructive surgery department in Rashid hospital Dubai UAE.

Dr Naim interesting in lymphedema surgeries, microsurgery, super microsurgery, facial palsy surgeries and body contouring surgeries. His devotion to plastic surgery led to international publications.

Dr Naim joined as international fellow in Plastic, Reconstructive and Microsurgery in Vienna to strengthen his skills in microsurgery procedures particularly in Lymphoedema, facial reanimation, free flaps surgeries’.

Dr Naim wishing and hoping to share and use his knowledge and expertise in international fellowship in Plastic, Reconstructive and Microsurgery in Vienna to treat many patients required reconstructive microsurgical procedures.

Dr Rusli obtained her medical degree from Kursk State Medical University. She completed her 2 years internship at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical Centre and 2 years of general surgery residency under Ministry Of Health Malaysia. She graduated after 4 years training of Master of Plastic Surgery in Universiti Sains Malaysia, and returned to UKM Medical Centre as a clinical specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery. She is a member of Malaysian Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr Rusli’s plastic surgery special interest include microsurgical reconstructive surgeries, lymphedema surgeries, post bariatric or aesthetic breast and body contouring surgeries. Her passion leads to international and local publications, scientific researches, oral presentations including local community interviews.

Dr Rusli interest in becoming International Fellow in Plastic, Reconstructive & Microsurgery, Vienna is to enhance her surgical skills in microsurgery, breast and body contouring surgeries, as well as dealing with lymphedema management due to high volume of surgical cases and availability of experts guidance in Krankenhaus Gottlicher Heiland. She aims to provide advanced and comprehensive plastic surgery services and treatments to her patients once returns to her country.

Dr Masoodi has done his MBBS from Aligarh Muslim University, which is one of the most prestigious universities in India. He was inclined towards Plastic Surgery from an early stage and thus completed his Masters in Surgery(MS- 3 years) and a Magister Chirurgiae (MCh- 3 years) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from JN Medical College, AMU, Aligarh. During his training he has attended various International and National workshops dedicated to various disciplines of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr Masoodi is currently working as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Florence Multi-Specialty Hospital Srinagar, India. He has extensively dealt with patients in need of post traumatic reconstruction as well as post burn reconstruction and runs a separate cosmetic surgery clinic, catering to patients seeking aesthetic interventions. Dr Masoodi is also inclined towards academics/research and has authored over 15 publications in various journals of repute. His primary interests are Microsurgery and Aesthetic Body Contouring Surgery.

Dr Masoodi joined as an International Microsurgery Fellow, Vienna primarily with the aim of strengthening his microsurgical dexterity and gaining proficiency in various microsurgical procedures being conducted at our institute on a routine basis (including lymphatic surgery and facial nerve reanimation procedures). Dr Masoodi hopes to use the expertise gained from this fellowship in a beneficial manner , once he returns to serve the population of his native country.

Dr. Mohos obtained his medical degree from the Semmelweis University in Hungary. During his studies, he attended one semester at the Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria. He undertook five years of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training at the Medical University of Pécs and worked in Markusovszky University Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Mohos is interested in lymphedema surgery and the microsurgical reconstruction of the breast and the head and neck region. His enthusiasm made him perform several national and international rotations and courses such as Plastic-and Burn Surgery Intern in RSUD Dr. Soetomo Hospital (Surabaya, Indonesia), Surgical Skill Training (University of Pécs), Facial Palsy Hands-on Course (Vienna, Austria), Microsurgery Training (Semmelweis University).

Dr. Mohos applied to International Microsurgery Fellowship Program in Vienna to improve his microsurgical skills and experience a broad education in microsurgical reconstructive plastic surgery, particularly in lymphedema surgery, breast reconstruction, and dynamic facial reanimation. He aims to provide advanced reconstruction to patients with oncological, traumatic, or congenital defects and offer state-of-the-art therapy to lymphedema patients.
